An Avid Escapist

Whenever I watch a news channel or read a newspaper I realize how hopeless it is getting. There is nothing but increasing suicide toll, stigmatized women, ever increasing load shedding, continuous CNG strikes and other bleak subjects like Dolly and Veena's idiocy etc. This depressing and desolate situation engendered a strange feeling in me as if reality has been vastly overrated. I know this statement sounds as ridiculous as it could possibly be but what if there is a way that offers an escape for a little while from the hustle bustle of this berserk life? In fact, when it requires much less labour to be an escapist and offers a treat for your frayed nerves.
Yes, of course, I’m talking about fiction that brings you the world you never dreamed of and takes your breath away. They say fiction corrupts minds, however, fiction also teaches a lot of things if one takes them into account. I still remember when I read my first novel what a refreshing experience it was. I was blown away by how one’s imagination can weave such a fantastical product that for a moment you forget that it is actually fiction. Try to think of your experience reading Harry Potter, Twilight and Hunger Games series. These are pure work of stupendous imagination.

Like Miss Elektra said vacations are here and we are at the threshold of utter boredom so I think it’s time to take a flight to that wild escapist’s world. I did exactly that a couple of days ago. I started with the fifth book of Mortal Instruments’ installment, City of Lost Soul. Cassandra Clare proved that the world of Shadow hunters will get you hooked once you step into it. The experience gets even more lively and vivid when you read while listening to its audiobook (read by Molly Quinn). It is priceless. Despite knowing, that I’m too old for these teenage thrillers now, I’m still addicted to them like a drug addict. But it is not really true; you can never get old for any genre of fiction and that’s the beauty of fiction. Therefore, this is the best time for escapists-cum-addicts like me to fulfill their passion for reading and escaping into the world of fiction.

PS: It is one of those days, when I have no clue what I’m writing.
PPS: Do try Mortal Instruments series. It is mesmerizing.
